On an Event-Oriented Perspective for Textual Cased-Based Reasoning

چکیده

The aim of this position paper is to stress the need for considering an event-oriented perspective when modelling problem situations in Textual Case-Based Reasoning (TCBR). Therefore, we give several examples where events appear naturally on the text and can serve as basis for constructing features for cases. We also argue that the current, single-sided, object-oriented perspective is due to the influence of technical documents on TCBR research, where properties of objects serve well as features for retrieval, but do not contribute to reasoning.

Modelling of Engineering Thermal Problems - An Implementation using CBR with Derivational Analogy

An interactive cased based reasoning tool for assisting engineers with the mathematical modelling tasks associated with the analysis of thermal problems is described. By representing fundamental thermal modelling scenarios as cases, complex physical systems are modelled in a piecewise fashion by successive application of matching cases. Retrieval is based on the use of qualitative indices, deri...

Case-based Reasoning Tools from Shells to Object-oriented Frameworks

A Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) tool is software that can be used to develop several applications that require cased-based reasoning methodology. CBR shells are kind of application generators with graphical user interface. They can be used by non-programmer users but the extension or integration of new components in these tools is not possible. In this paper we analyzed three CBR object-oriented f...

Space as a Semiotic Object: A Three-Dimensional Model of Vertical Structure of Space in Calvino’s Invisible Cities

Following the “spatial turn” of the last 3 decades in humanities and social sciences and the structure of semiotic object, this research studies space as the main semiotic object of Calvino’s (1972) Invisible Cities. Significance of this application resides in examining the possibility of providing a more concrete methodology based on the integration of Zoran’s (1984) 3 vertical levels of const...
